Location:  KUSA, 500 Speer Blvd, Denver, CO 80203
Topic:  The Hear Factor - Understanding DTV Loudness
Presenter:   Ed Simeone, Linear Acoustic

Synopsis:
As the Commercial Advertisement Mitigation Act (CALM) winds its way through the US House and Senate broadcasters want to know how they can prepare for CALM’s eventual passage. Linear Acoustic VP of Sales Ed Simeone will uncover some of the mystery behind loudness measurement from the earliest attempts to control radio and TV levels to the latest ATSC A-85 Loudness Recommendation. Topics covered will include the seven biggest audio loudness problems networks and local broadcasters face today. This is not a product presentation, but an in depth and often humorous look at audio throughout the years.

Presenter Bio:
Before joining Linear Acoustic in 2009 Ed led a dual life as Chairman and founder (1989) of TC Electronic USA, and as a touring electronic specialist for numerous recording artists. Ed retired from the road in 2005 after working for Michael McDonald, Stevie Wonder, TOTO, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, The Electric Light Orchestra, and Journey (FOH engineer). The TOTO years (1983-1986) included studio work on albums by Michael Jackson, Don Henley, and numerous other artists.

Ed holds a General Class Amateur Radio license (K6EGS) and operates a restored Collins 550A-1 broadcast transmitter on the 80 meter band. He is also a guest lecturer at recording and broadcast colleges in the United States, including Full Sail School of Recording, Emerson College, Institute of Audio Research, SAE School of Recording, New York University, Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Our sincere thanks to Ken Highberger and KUSA for providing the meeting place for this month.
